














































Rick Diaz follows a variety of teaching thoughts, philosophies and techniques. Below are a few of his goals when teaching.
Lead as an art director, having a vision as a whole, while understanding the steps required to get there (scaffolding).
Experience painting, collage, sculpture and printing as well as portraits, landscape, still life, abstract and conceptual art.
Draw from observation and from imagination as well as develop one’s imagination.
Develop hand-eye coordination & motor-skills.
Explore a variety of materials including found, recycled and natural.
Be encouraged to solve problems creatively.
Art requires the act of participating in the process. It requires listening to the art and following what it tells you.
Learn the basics of color theory.
Express oneself creatively while making art.
Combine art with literacy, making art inspired by children’s books - either its theme or illustration technique.
Understand the tradition of craft where artisans use materials such as wood, glass and stone to create functional art.
Realize that buildings, clothing, and products have been designed by artists, which are viable careers in the arts.
Working on group projects fosters a sense of community (project based learning)
Empower students to be their better selves by boosting their self-esteem.
